My dad has a friend who has a 100hp evinrude starflite w/controls, etc for $200. It was running 3 months ago when it was removed from a boat, and the boat was junked.

is it worth the money?
Anything to look out for on it?

I know it is selectric shift, or whatever they call it...the push button style.

Will it bolt up to the holes where my 65esl-72 was bolted? It appears that it goes in the same holes...

Thanks!
Shawn

The guy will give me the $200 back if it doesn't work at first, he's a close friend of my dads. So I'm really not gambling too bad. Now if it blows up in a few months, then he wont refund me. He's basically guranteeing that it will run as is, and run good. I just dont want to get into
an engine that has a history of trouble.

I was going to rebuild the 65, but the parts would've been more than what I spent on my whole boat/motor/trailer combo...and I am trying to sink as little money into this as possible. It's just a 'first timers' fishing rig, ya know?

It is a pretty clean looking engine, cleaner than my 1972 model...if that means anything.
I plan to check compression (he assured it was good), and then check to make sure it will mount up. If it does, and the compression check is good, I will buy it.

However, when I was looking at it, I didn't see anywhere to put my 'muffs' on it and run it outside of water...where is the water intake?

Thanks
Shawn

ShawnQ,
Sounds like a deal to me! Here's some info on the Motor, although I don't know what the difference between an "M" model and an "S" Model is, unless it refers to the shift being a "Selectric" Model.

100693
1966 V-4 100HP@5000 RPM
89.5 cu.in
272.5 LBS
Props 12 1/2 x 16
opt.: 12 1/2 x 18 , 13 x 14 , 14 1/4 x 10 , 14 1
Gear Ratio 16:28
web page

You've probably done this but be sure the shaft lenghts are the same on both engines.

c/6

Hooty
