There is a 1978 25hp for sale online I may be interested in, model number 25802C. It appears to be a short shaft but I don't understand where that would be indicated in the model number. Can anyone tell me for sure?

It came from the factory as a short shaft. Doesn't mean anything, though as it's relatively easy to convert. Would be obvious if it was, as it'll have a 5-inch extension inserted between the exhaust housing and lower unit.

Thanks. This one definitely does not have an extension then. I wasn't aware this version was convertible like that.

One other thing....does this motor share the same powerhead as a 35 hp for the same year? The parts diagrams make it seem like they are the same motors aside from the gearcase and carb.

And different intake manifold and exhaust housing as well.
If you have upgrade in mind, you may have trouble finding a 35 HP carb for cheap though.

Appreciate it. I was mainly just curious as the jon boat I would use it on is rated for a 35 hp.

I think it is the last number that tells you the shaft length. At least that is the case with my 63 28hp.It is 28303 and the short shaft version is 28302.
