Just purchased a pre-owned Ranger 188 V with a Mercury V6 150 Power Trim motor and, while I have located the serial number, I cannot seem to find any emblem, plate, or other marking which carries the model #. When I attempt a request via Mercury, I get a message stating that the serial number is incorrect!? HELP!!! Serial number is 5838710. AND...I really need advice on fuel/oil mixture for this motor, as previous owner had it 'loaded up' with a heavy mix and I want to replace the fuel ASAP. Thanks!

Re: Model # and year Mercury V6 150 Power Trim

Welcome to iboats.

I can't nail down the year, but I'd say the very early 80s. Somebody will be of more help. That's supposed to have oil injection. Has it been removed? If you have to premix, it's 50:1. Merc IDs their motors by serial number. The only manufacrurer that does. They're odd in so many ways. ;)

WillyB---Thanks for the help. Longtime shore and rental boat fisherman, but first time boat owner. A real rookie at this end of fishing. A friend had suggested 100:1 but I thought that sounded a bit off...thanks again!

By the way, the Ranger boat is a 1981 Model. Any chance the boat/motor were originally sold as a "package"?

IBNFSHN---Thanks for the input. Had a feeling that might be the case but not sure. Still get an error message trying to order a manual through Mercury Marine using that serial number....but I'll keep trying!

Don't feel bad, I had the same problem. I recently bought a 1979 merc V150 and the Merc website doesn't accept my ser# either. I'll probably just get the manual advertised on iboats the covers my motor.
