I have a question about a 1970 Model 60HP the model # is 60ESL70B. The motor needs control but the owner isn't sure if its an electric shift or not. How can I tell for sure?

Well, I can tell you that it is either electric shift, or Hydro-electric... (Not sure which, but I think plain electric...)
I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to confirm which version of electric shift it is..

Hope it helps!

Hydro-Electric shift. No 3-cylinder models ever had the old electric spring clutches. Totally different critters.

Well you could go to the gearcase parts list and diagram on the BRP parts web site

The wiring (# 52)and the solenoids ( # 56 and #57)confirm that it is an electric shift

The oil pump #4 tells you that is a hydraulically assisted shift
