Model #/Serial # on engine block?

I bought what I thought was a 1997 Johnson 150 but based on the model # on the engine mount, it is a 1993 Johnson 150. Model # J150GLETG.
Is it possible to put a 1997 engine on a 1993 engine mount?
Is the model # or serial # stamped on the engine somewhere.
I have part numbers stamped on some of the parts like 185 97 and another 19DS 1 however, I can not tie those part #'s to any part number in the part number listing anywhere.

could be possible,look on the top of the enging 1/3 way forward of the plugs,you should see a welch plug the size of a 25 cent piece.it will have the model and ser on it.
