Modified Transom

Has anyone done a major transom remanufacture? I have a short transom jon boat 15" and want to raise it to 20" for a standard length shaft motor. Has anyone done the cutting fitting rewelding etc. The boat is an alumacraft 16' construction grade boat. Any ideas or input would be great.

Raising the transom on a small aluminum boat is easy to do and doesn't involve a major re-fit or a lot of work. Many times all that's needed is two sheets of aluminum and a piece of plywood to sandwich between them.

Search the iboats store for "transom elevator" and you'll see some pre-fabbed raisers.

Search the outboard forum for "aluminum angle" and you'll see some ideas for
fabbing it yourself.
