Modifications, are they worth it? Do you gain? Or what do you gain? Who sells mod parts? Even the pointless things like billet pulleys or other shiny things for my v8.
Im about to fully rebuild my 351v8 and want it shiny when I pull off the cover. And want it to act like it looks

I want to see your mod boat/ motor

Re: mods

Most street rod people do the chrome thing. You can have just about anything chromed........... the 351 is no longer a standard motor for the I/O people and on occasion they are in a ski boat hull. Ford basically got away from the marine business so you are going to need to check other resources.......Summit, Jegs etc....

Re: mods

Not much you can do to get a lot more power. You are limited to a mild cam to prevent water reversion in the exhaust. Best way to get more power is through more displacement, especially a longer stroke since cam selection is going to limit RPM anyway.

Re: mods

those parts....like pullys and valve covers are not demanded by marine motors. they are just bolt on bling.

what are you putting this motor into?.

Re: mods

Nope. You would have to purchase marine parts and have them chromed......... trying to increase power is dangerous since if you buy a cam and it is not correct you will suck in water. Intakes, carbs, and all electrical components need to be marine quality/grade and not automotive. is this an I/O with an OMC outdrive? or an inboard?

Re: mods

Chroming is very $$$. I've had some aluminum Indian motorcycle parts chromed, http://brownsplating.com/, because they show and I got tired of polishing them. If I wasn't lazy I would have a lot more $$ in my pocket by polishing. Bling = $$$, your choice. Good luck.

Re: mods

Don't forget that the flame arrestor must have USCG approval. Don't bolt on some fancy hot rod air cleaner.

Re: mods

Nice boat. :)

IMO forget the bling! That is a ski boat and not a race boat. Trying for more power really would not be in it's character since no one would notice. Regardless of how many "mods" you want to make....... a bass fisherman will blow right by your boat.

Just trying to save you some coin and keep the reliability up and strong.

Re: mods

Wish there was some kind of two speed transmission. Or does the prop limit speed as well

Re: mods

The proper propeller that will allow your engine to just reach maximum allowable RPM under normal loadings will give the maximum speed. Any increase in propeller pitch above that will put more demand than your engine can produce, your speed will drop and your engine will turn fewer RPM's. You can't beat the physics of the system. Once the maximum engine power is equal to the drag and air resistance of the boat nothing will make it go faster.

Settle for the two speed transmission your boat already has, one speed forward and one in reverse.

Re: mods

very true in all aspects. best bet for my situation is to just clean and replace all parts stock for stock and hopefully find a few pretty parts and fresh paint. maby upgrade the electronics, replace the points with an electronic distributor, coil, wire kit.
