I am looking at a 252 sportcraft to buy. Only 140 hours and it is a 2000 model. Looks great and runs fine,HOWEVER-- I had a guy check the transom and stringers for moisture/rot damage and they sounded out fine...He also checked the decking at various points of hte deck with a moisture meter. Alot of the areas were 25-30% and some pegged the meter at 30+..
I've been reading on these meters and they don't sound as accurate as some people want you to believe...humidity, boat storage areas, when last in water???these things can create false readings...HELP, what can you telll me.

Re: moisture in decking-sport craft

First let me say these are awesome boats. I would definately check closer...I am in the process of replacing a transom on a 1989 Coastal Fisherman and the transom literal pealed away. Almost all of the fittings below the waterline were not seal properly from the factory, I know this cause I bought the boat from the original owner (father-in-law). The engine mounts should be checked closely...chances are if it shows moisture then it has it.
