Sniffle sniffle, my monitor just left the building, granted it{17" HP flat screen} was near 7 years old, but I was quite happy with it...anyway's what are your thoughts on a replacement? Thinking 20" - 24" wide screen, but haven't really looked at any up close and personal...not looking for anything too fancy as the vid card is old as well, & I'm sure I'll be needing a new set-up soon enough, but the resto's been drinking me dry so not likely to happen any time soon...so wide screen or not?

Glad I still had an old crt collecting dust in the corner, or else I....I don't even want to think about it, lol.........Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: Monitor thoughts

My wife just lost her HP W1907 flat panel monitor to some computer chip or solder joint failure, about 5 years old.
We ended up buying her her a Samsung B2030, about $160 at best buy. I guess it is wide screen.

I'm using a 7 year old Compaq 15" flat panel and the power button seems to be flaking out a bit. This stuff they sell today is so cheap and such throwaway type stuff. I just got rid a of a Sylvania tube TV that was 30 years old and it played fine.
Now with a new style TV you get to buy a new one every 5 to 10 years I've heard ?

Hi,I seen your post, and thought i would share a place that I use,and have bought many things from.Go here and look around,I have spent alittle over $1400.00 with them, and never had an issue. http://3btech.net/ They have really good prices, and there shipping is free, yes, you heard it right, free, lol give them a try,I built my gaming pc on there site the way i wanted it,they put it together, and shipped it to me,only took 8 days to get it.I am sure you will get your monitor quicker, and there customer service is exelent, very friendly to talk to on the phone. Its not a big company,so if you call them, its the same building that they ship from, hope this helps you,,,,odie

Re: Monitor thoughts

A 22 inch widescreen would fit the bill nicely. Make sure it has an analog input (not DVI only) for your old computer.

Kenny I'd get whatever you can get a great deal on from Craigslist and then get a new monitor thrown in with the next new system you buy. Lotta people selling perfectly good flat panels on CL nowadays cheap.

Re: Monitor thoughts

I recently bought a Dell 22" for $129 bucks with free shipping from Dell. It sure is a nice improvement over my old 17" CRT.

My Sony 55" HDTV has an input to use as a monitor.

If/when this 17" HP flat screen croaks I think I will get a wireless keyboard and do my 'puting from my Lane recliner.

Then I can turn this room back into a den/spare bedroom. :)

Re: Monitor thoughts

Thanks folks, like the CL idea{Thanks EZ}, don't know why I didn't think of that.

as to JB's thought's, my 42 inch has the capabilities as well, but the last time I looked{about 2 yr's ago when I bought the tv} most{the ones I seen anyways} wireless keyboards only reached approximately 6 feet, have they improved or does my searching need to?

Re: Monitor thoughts

The wireless keyboards have improved. I don't have any specific models to link to but I KNOW there are some ones that work a good distance. Heck many years ago I had an IR one that worked from a pretty good distance.

I go on http://www.spoofee.com/ and other sites like that and look for deals. I use 2 24" monitors at home that I found for around $190 from Dell. Found that deal on Spoofee.

Thanks for the link Bruceb58, definitely looking forward to something like that set-up in the near future, I do a lot of video and audio editing and that would be the cat's 'south end' I believe! :D

Re: Monitor thoughts

I have used medium priced $50-70 wireless keyboards and mice radio signal types ones of course and they work great and go all of 10-15 feet and easy on batteries too. I was shocked judging by some of the old stuff I've used that left a lot to be desired honestly.

As far as monitors go I think you could end up with some real junk on CL this little HP monitor that just failed over here plays fine for awhile but sooner than later it will start flaking out and flickering and going black.
It looks nice but only works for a half hour, good picture too.
I was thinking of putting the half dead flat panel on CL for parts, an electronic guru could probably fix it for $20 or use parts to fix another. That aint me tho.

Since I did not mention how I like that 20 inch Samsung for $160, nice, very nice.
Also I do not think brand much matters as most the panels are made by the same craphole in indo china ? Maybe I'm wrong ?

Re: Monitor thoughts

For any of you guys that have PCs connected to your big TVs for media, etc and don't do a lot of typing but occaisionally need to.....check out this bad boy http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE I got one a few months ago and it is GREAT for what it is. Very handy if I have some people over and we're watching funny youtube videos or something.

That thing is great.I also bookmarked it,going to put it on my wishlist, maybe wait until after boating season,as my Boat is taking all my extra money at the moment =)

Re: Monitor thoughts

I'd go to www.newegg.com instead of tigerdirect. I shop tigerdirect all the time, but since I live in chicago, I go to the warehouse to bypass the shipping costs. Newegg is much better with shipping costs.

One thing to note, though, be sure your video card supports wide screen resolutions. If your computer is old, it just may not and it's pointless getting a wide screen monitor or hooking up to your hd tv.
