I don't think you have shellcrackers in PA, Flathead. It is a different species than the bluegill, and usually grows bigger. There is a fine red edge on the gill flap and the coloration is different.

I have caught two 12 inchers in my long career. That one looks maybe even bigger than that. Heckofa catch. :)

Yep thats a shellcracker, they dont all have red on their gill flap, some have yellow as that one does.
