I have a 2005 Monterey 250CR with 5.7L Volvo penta. Does any one know the fuel consumption on this boat is? Crushing range? A rough idea.

How many miles do you think I can go in an hour? Fairly calm water. Little wind. Cruising at about 3000 RPM's.

What dose your GPS say.

This ^
Get a gps .... smart phone, chart plotter, tom tom from your car, etc and track you actual speed...... then run that speed for about 1/3 of a tank.... turn around and go back..... top off and figure how many miles you went... that will be your range between fill-ups.

I suppose if I had to make a WAG I'd say about 2 mpg x 2/3 of your fuel capacity = your range for 1 way or 2 mpg x 1/3 capacity if you are going out n back to fuel up.

either way you need to reach the fuel dock or gas station with 1/3 tank remaining

Re: Monterey 250CR fuel consumption

That 250CR is very similar in size and power to my boat (2000 Regal 2550LSC 7.4 MPI/Bravo3). I get about 2.6 statute MPG at cruise with a typical load. I think you'd be safe going with 2.4 MPG for range calculations. I have to work pretty hard (towing three tubes, or running at plowing speed) to make my boat drop below 2 MPG. Even at WOT, I'm still getting 2.2 MPG.

Re: Monterey 250CR fuel consumption

Lets see, your boat clocks in at 6,100Lbs and holds 90 gallons of fuel. Your boat is very ssimmeler to mine. My boat is 25 feet clocks in at 6,480lbs and holds 80 gallons of fuel. I have the fuel injected 5.0MPI making 260HP you have a 5.7 I don't know what that is putting out. Id your motor carbed or fuel injected?

Any rate your best rang will be running at less than 2000RPM.
2000-3000RMP will provide your worst range (boat pushing through water not on plain too much resistance)
300-4000 RPM should be your best cruise (combination of speed and range)

I have attached the boattest.com report link to this post. May help you get an idea considering our boats are so simmilar. For note the boattest.com report used a 5.7MPI.

Yeah my boat is planing at about 3,300 RPM. 2-3K is my worst economy as the boat is not on plain and just pushing through the water. This is my last planing hull boat. I hate them. Any rate don't you have twins in your boat?

Re: Monterey 250CR fuel consumption

yes but it's a bigger boat.... my 1980 26' carver IIRC cruised nicely at 3k with the 260 tho I admit that at 3500 speed was better with only a very slight mpg loss

Oh well either way there's no replacement for being able to track speed, distance, position, and preferably fuel consumption if you are cruising any distance on a boat ..... Just blindly going by joe said I can go x miles and dave said it's x miles to there and bob said I should run x rpm is a good way to get in trouble

Re: Monterey 250CR fuel consumption

I would tend to agree with that. My golden rule is when going on a cruse I fill up every 60-100 miles. depending on how fast I am going.

My best fuel economy is at 3800 - 4200 RPM, on plane at 24 - 28 mph. Much of my time is spent trolling.....There it is .8 - 1.3 mph. I do not track MPG much as GPH is more important. I have a 90 gallon tank that rarely gets below half full before being filled with 90 octane ethanol free fuel currently at $4.74

My 1999 24' Chris Craft express. 'Wet' weight app. 6500 lbs. 5.7 Volvo f.i. motor with duo prop. My best performance overall was at a cruising speed of 3200-3500 rpm (25-28 mph). I used about 10 gph, 2.5-ish mpg.
