Montgomery Ward 25 Hsp.

Have an older 25 Hsp. Wards motor in good condition, but the lower unit is bad. The model number is VWB 52025 and the serial number is 47X20161. Anyone know what year it is, and if there is anyplace a lower unit can be purchased.<br /><br /> Thanks,<br /> Skip

Hi Skip<br />You have a 1974 model 25hp. Your motor was made by Chrysler marine. When looking for parts and info look for Chrysler. What is so bad about the L/U? Why don't you just repair what you have? After all, then you know what you got.

Boat and motor were given to me. Motor has no lower unit, and it would be good if one could be purchased. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as how to obtain one.<br /><br /> Thanks,<br /> Skip

Hi Skip<br />There is a deal every day. You will have to find a used one some where. A lot of guy's find stuff on Ebay. Right now I'd say you are ahead of the game. Why not pedel the parts you have now and buy a more modern motor? You know the kind that runs. The bad thing is if you put money into this motor you will never get it back. What you have is worth more dead than alive. If you could find another free Chrysler or Seaking you might be in business, a deal every day, you just have to look.

No, The 35hp and 45 hp are closest. And then there may be differences in gear ratio.
