Re: Montgomery Ward 9.9

I'm afraid I can't give you the year, from that info. I tried to find something on the web, but no joy.

The 9.9 hp Wards engines, however, were made by Chrysler. That should be a start, but I don't know what year it is.

Since Wards, to their discredit, isn't supplying parts for their outboards, unlike Sears for their later models, you'll always be looking for Chrysler parts, also not so easy to find.

Many parts, however, are available for the Chrysler motors, through aftermarket suppliers. I'll keep looking for a way to id your motor, though. Once you know the year, it will make life easier for you.

I hope I can, too. Your outboard was made by OMC, the same folks who made Johnsons and Evinrudes.

A carburetor kit is probably available from Sierra Marine. You can find their parts at most NAPA dealers.

The problem will be determining which outboard you have that cross-references to the Johnson/Evinrude model.

OK, I think I have identified your carburetor kit. It's Sierra Part # 18-7043. I've cross-checked that from several sites. It's not expensive and you can get it at your NAPA dealer or from several sources online.

One place to look online that lists Gale and Sea Kings along with the Johnson and Evinrudes is

Laing's Outboards --- laingsoutboards.com

Add the www. to the front of that, then scroll down and click Gale. While there are some overlaps in model years, yours fits into the middle of the 12 hp listings, so the parts should be the correct ones, as listed there. For your information, the site lists just the last digits of the Sierra part numbers. If you add 18- to the front of a number, that's the Sierra number.

Yours is a good old engine. They're durable, easy to work on, and if it has compression and spark, it should run just fine once you get your carb problem sorted out.

Re: Montgomery Ward 9.9

You should post your own thread.Should be a button here at the top of other outboards section. This long dead thread won't produce much.
Your motor is an 82 built by Chrysler who became Force in 85.
