Good day all.
I always kept the boat at the marina dock.
Now, for the first time I got an opportunity to keep her at the spot designated by the local government.
They have a requirement for boaters to have minimum mooring equipment.
Can someone advise what I need? There is a mooring bouy installed in the bay and the boat gets attached to the bouy.
Thanks !

Hope we all have a happy safe season

Re: Mooring equipment requirements

They don't define what they mean by "minimum equipment"? To me that's a sufficiently rated bow line only.

Re: Mooring equipment requirements

Mooring systems generally consist of a mushroom or pyramid anchor that weighs ten to twenty pounds per foot of boat length. It is connected to a heavy bottom chain by a shackle. The heavy chain should be one and a half times the maximum water depth. A light chain the length of which equals the depth of the water is attached to the bottom chain by a shackle. The light chain would be either a three eights or half inch chain, preferably galvanized for a twenty to fourty footer.

The top of the light chain is attached to the mooring bouy by a shackle and a swivel. The pennant, which is the heavy line from the boat to the bouy is shackled to the swivel below the bouy. Most reccommend an eye to eye swivel.

Always by heavier ground tackle than you think you will ever need. Storms can have surprising strength and you may want to tie a bigger boat up to the mooring. Corrosion also takes it's toll.

Check your local regulations as most of the time they define the minimum requirements and the exact placement of the anchor.
