well.... not really a good idea. its true leaning out the mix a little will make slightly more power, but only to a point. and the risk of serious engine damage increases quickly the leaner you get. basically the only way to safely add more air is to add more fuel too, which means changing jet sizes. its not worth it and too risky if you ask me.

Well, not exactly. If you flow more air through a carburetor it will pick up more fuel. Generally, that is what happens when you open the throttle plate.

What you have in mind is too unclear to give you a useful answer, jj.

Please explain.

Re: more air to carb is good?

most modern outboard carbs are a fixed high speed jet design.
means if you modify the carb for more air you MUST modify the jetting to allow for more fuel, some will also require oil pump modifications,if using a mechanical injection, to allow more oil for the increase in raw fuel.
its why some engines can burn a piston if you run above 3000 rpm with the airbox removed.
best is to keep the engine tuned, lighten the hul as much as possible and make sure its propped correctly and the bottom is clean.
