Replaced fuel line and connector and motor still won't stay running. Not getting fuel- bulb won't stay firm. Also noticed while running with muffs water coming out sides of lower unit above intakes where there seems to be a seal or line of some kind. Any advice before I take it to my mechanic? Motor is a '71 Johnson 85hp. Do I need a new fuel pump?
Thanks for any help,
Rocks

If the bulb is not staying hard you are having a pickup problem. The fuel pump is taking the fuel out of the bulb. Check the tank, or use a portable tank and see if anything changes. The water out of the sides of the lower unit is common.

Make sure the new fuel line or bulb isn't on backwords. Ran into a family at the boat landing last year the had the same prob. They were thrilled when they discovered their mistake.

Rocks Beware,

My buddy just had a similar problem, his was the fittings at the motor and around the bulb were leaking. This caused air to be sucked into the bulb. He replaced the bulb, fittings and clamps and everything was fine.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
