One thing no one has mentioned is people getting sideways in the launch when leaving the dock.

We launch at Magnuson Park in Seattle. Busy day last weekend. It has two launch and 2 retrieval docks, they switch to 3 and 1 when busy.

On the pier we chose there were already 2 boats waiting and 1 on the other side. The piers are long enough for 3 20' boats. I launched and tied up, nowhere to go with boats in the way, had to wait for the wife to get back from parking the truck.

The first boat on my pier leaves, middle guy still not ready, boat on other side not ready.

second boats people arrive, he asks me to untie his bow, cool i do it.

Instead of walking his boat to the end of the pier, he decides to motor out. somehow he gets sideways, dont have a clue how you get sideways, but luckily the distance between the piers is about 28 feet, just enough for a 20 foot boat to be pushed out of the way by the angry boater in the water on the other side.

Dont know about anyone else but i walk my boat to the end to minimize the off hand chance ( no clue how) i would get sideways. This seems to happen a lot. Dont know how so many people can have issues going backwards in their boat for 10-20 feet.

Crazy current. Where we launch you are either pinned against the dock or pushed away from the dock depending on very strong tide. The trick is to know which side of the dock to pull up on.

Makes sense if there was a current in the little cove where the launch is in Lake Wa. I have been going there for 5 yrs, you can leave the boat untied at the dock and it wont go anywhere, just bounce around with the waves.

If nobody tied off on the inside of the piers, it wouldnt be an issue. Were I launch, you can only tie off to the outside of the dock, to keep the inside lanes open for loading and unloading. But in either case, some people just dont understand how to steer a boat in reverse. :)
