More exhaust gas on port vs starboard engine

ok - I am getting all my questions out today.

Engines are '89 Evinrude V4 120's (twins), both standard rotation (for those that haven't seen the other 3 threads I started today).

At idle, the port engine is throwing alot more exhaust gas than the strbd engine. It also tends to idle up to @ 2k rpm when initially put in neutral, then settles back down. It is also harder to shift from forward to neutral.

Should I be concerned about the increased exhaust?

Could it be related to the idle setting being slightly higher than the other engine? Also, what is the basic proceedure for adjusting idle?

The correct way to set the idle is through a link&sync procedure. It is detailed in the shop manual for your motor. I can't give you the procedures because they are different for differnet motors and your 120's are a little more involved that on the crossflow V4's.
I do believe you exhaust and shifting problems may be caused by you idle settings.

I have the manual, and think you are right.

Is there an easy way to determine the accuracy of the tachs b4 I go fine tuning?
