It seems like every one has a different opinion on what I should do/should have done when replacing my fuel pump with VRO on my 1986 Evinrude 40 VRO.
1. When I went to buy new ratchet clamps, I was told to use ty wraps, "They work better", was the comment. The instructions from OMC very specifically said to not use ty wraps and to use ratchet clamps. Seems like OMC would know and probably has a reason for saying to stay away from the ty wraps.

2. It has been suggested that I remove the pulse limiter fitting that I had to modify and reinstall the original with the screen in it.
The one the dealer supplied to be used with the new pump had a much larger hex, (which I had to file smaller), and has white material visible inside it. Almost looks like a filter.

Here again, neither my Clymer nor my Seloc manual is of any help.

Stupid me, I actually thought I was done with this project. Hey, it was just a fuel pump change. ;)

Charles

Re: More Fuel/VRO Pump Change Questions

Yep...remember your post Charles. Use the snap clamps (ratchet clamps) on connections to the pump. The tie straps....you can't get them tight enough even with a strap tool.

Leave pulse limiter you installed on there. As I posted on your previous post, if you got the connections tight, your good to go.

And hey....don't hesitate to ask questions. The wrenches on the forums know that most of the guys that post are not outboard mechanics and are asking for guidance. No big deal.

Use the #3222654 ratchet clamps on all your oil lines. If your line is the smooth vinyl stuff that is brittle, change it out to the rubber oil line that has been in use for over 5 years now.

The pulse limiter should have a blue colored end on it for the latest style, change it out ASAP if it is black on one end.
