More help needed please Pre alpha to Alpha

I have or had a mercruised 260 pre alpha. the new drive and gimbal housing are alpha 1 gen 1. the inner transom plate is pre Alpha. My question is do I have to change the Y pipe to Alpha or will the old 3 piece Y pipe bolt up not using the center bolt. Will it seal and be reliable? Or do I need to change the transom bracket to Alpha and the flywheel cover to Alpha and that leads to all alpha exhaust and more $$. Any good advice would be great

I went, All Alpha 1, 'n didn't look back....

Can't say how it'll turn out mixin', 'n matchin' 'em that way....

It'll work, but how Well is the question,.... You can be our Test Dummy, 'n try it I s'pose,....

Depends on how 'pre-Alpha' it is (God, I HATE them term. The moron who first used it should be shot, slowly!!). If it's MR or R, it should work, but not if it's MC-1...

The boat is a 1976. I have placed the alpha gasket on the pre alpha Y and it will seal if I weld the center hole shut and machine it flat. This will save me big $ on exhaust and brackets.
