This past weekend went to use the boat and it ran fine the first two days. next morning went to fish and nothing. It wouldn't even turn over.Motor is a 1990 115hp 2+2. I checked voltage, battery was dead. I charged it over night and when i connected it, it had a spark when attaching last cable. I thought it might have been from an accessory. We went for a ride, got back went to go fish, nothing. I chalked it up to a bad battery. I connected a good known battery (had just bought three days prior). I disconnected everything except motor, got the same spark. My question, What could possibly be draining the battery? the stator, rectifier, or the regulator? Can that cause the stator to go bad? I didn't have time to look at it last weekend. I would like to have a few thoughts before I get back to it. Thanks in advanced!!!! Anthony

Re: More Mercury 115 2+2 questions

After some reading and research I have more to add. The tach has never worked right. sometimes it was very erratic. When you first start the boat up it wanders on the idle on it's own, up and down, and sometimes pops a split second before recovering. When I bought the boat the motor was trashed. I rebuilt the motor with new rings bearings one new rod/piston and a new crank. put a new accelerator pump on and rebuilt the carbs. It always ran very well once warmed up. I did set timing as per my manual which has since been lost. I hope some of this helps! Thanks again in advanced!!!
