Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Bass boat with a 1979 mercury 150 V6 It has been a downhill battle so far....But with the help of all of YOU nice people I have been able to avoid Blowing my top Completely! Ok...Here it goes...When I first got the boat it ran GREAT for a couple of outings 50+MPH Then...It would not seem to pick up speed while trying to give it throttle unless you pulled back..slowly go forward...pull back slowly go forward...etc... First it was sometimes then it just got worst. I checked the compression on all 6 cylnd's and they are ALL EXACTLY 120psi. So...Then a mechanic said it could be my High Rpm???Stator problem..Ok so I replaced the Stator, Trigger, Rectifier all at the same time JUST to cover my bases. I forgot to mark the Flywheel when I took it off to pull the center(frozen) hub off shaft so I Called a Master technician(mobile) 30+ years Experience (highly Recommended) He came over took about 20min alligned the flywheel, and Timed the motor Exactly to specs. So I am ALL excited take the boat out today with my family,start it up wife and child with me and... Started Great Idles Great Put it into gear to take off and...DIES EVERYTIME I try to give it throtle...Just Dies!!!!! I Love the Boat and trolling is fun but I would LOVE to go further than 200 yards for the day...Someone PLEASE HELP I am at the end of my rope and my wife kepps saying..." I told You not to buy a used boat" I LOVE my used boat just want to fix it Right..Any suggestions??? Thank you all in advance for your Great support and help. Perhaps a little wordy but I think we got the info needed.
I would suspect a fuel supply problem.
Did the boat sit a long time before you got it or was it used very infrequently?The progressive decrease in performance is classic for this.Sometimes going through the fuel system from tank to carb(s) with attention to cleaning is the best way to solve it.See if a little choke helps the operation. Also try squeezing the primer bulb.If primer bulb helps suspect the fuel pump.If choke helps suspect a dirty carb (s).

OK...Sorry about the long post. The boat starts fine, idles fine, take it to the lake put it into gear and the boat vibrates, and hesitates.. when I try to throtle forward it dies everytime.. Won't even go at all. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. The boat was ran about every other weekend prior to my purchase, And it ran fine for me for a couple of outings when I first got it. One more note...When this all started was when my father in law hooked up the 2 yellow and orange striped wires from the original stator to the rectifier. I don't believe that the charging wires could have caused all this mess but...??? Thank you again in advance for your help.

go to autozone and buy you a $10 spark checker.....come back and check that all wires are jumping a 7/16th gap on the checker.......let us know what ya get......unplug all wires befroe starting so it dont try to start up on ya while doing test....if this is good you got a fuel problem.
