More Power From an Outboard?

Has anyone tried to increase the Power Output of an Outboard? How about milling head (increase compression ratio), increase Reed opening by either larger reeds and or opening Reed more? Opening both intake and exhaust ports? I realize some of these possibilities are on the drastic side but you would think a simple change like head milling would make a difference?<br />Any Thoughts?

Yes, you can increase the power of an outboard. It's not unusual to get 300+ HP from a V6. It involves a lot more than just milling the heads. <br /><br />If you simply cut the heads and do nothing else, you will need the part numbers for pistons. Let us know what motor you have so we can get you the correct part numbers. <br /><br />Power (speed) has a lot to do with your hull type also. If you have a hull type that does not respond well to torque increases you may not see any gains. <br /><br />Opening ports is a very exact science. You can easily kill the power in a motor just guessing.<br /><br />What motor do you have? What boat? What's the performance numbers now?<br /><br />Good luck!

Thanks Bear for the website. If and When my Motor neads a rebuild, I may consider doing some "Blueprinting" to the ports. I have done this on Auto Engines with success but have not attemped a 2 cycle. Also, obviously, doing any Headwork should be done with with Clearances in mind. Again, I am just thinking "out loud".<br />Thanks for your imputs.
