It would seem to me that all 2 cylinders motors should be able to use the same power pack. My pack for my 4 stroke 9.9 hp devolops an output of 200 volts to the ignition coil which produces 40,000 volts. I would think that this voltage would be sufficient for most engines to ignite the gas in the cylinder. Does Evinrude use the same ignition power pack for many of their 2 cylinder engines ???. What company supplies Evinrude with their IPP ?? Is there a differents between an after market unit and the one Evinrude sells for twice the money ?? I like to learn more about IPP's since it looks like I will be replacing it every couple years if I stay with this motor, which I am starting to have second thoughts about that.
The schematic in my evinrude shop manual shows a stop ground wire coming out of the IPP but the unit I just purchased from Evinrude only has 2 wires instead on 3 shown in the schematic.
This means the lanyard on my ignition switch won't work, but I never used in the past anyway.
It seems there should be more of a discussion on IPP since this is the 4th one I have had replaced in a 7 year old 4 stroke. It seems there should be more people having problems with this unit or am I just extremly unforunate ??
