115 HP Johnson, Seapro 180CC, 14x17 Al prop
I got 42 Mph @ 5800 GPS (setup from the dealer)

This weekend I got the chance to try a SS (remanufactured, not sure what type, 389510 stamped on the hub) It seemed to slip (motor rev up slightly) a bunch while planing out. Reached 44.7 @ 5700 on very smooth water. Have I a bad hub, or is my setup very close to being too high for this prop? What effect would diameter have on X-demension I can run? Is it possible that the Al 14X17 hooks up better than a SS 13x19.

Sorry for all the dumb questions.

Re: More Seapro props

13X19 will not run as high as a 14" prop will.
The prop being rebuilt doesn't mean the right amount of cup was put back in either.
If it has a true 19 pitch and proper cup, it should have dropped more RPM.
Your slip ration went from 10% with the 17, to 12.8% with the 19 SS, so I know the prop has not been rebuilt to specs.
The 389510 is an OMC SST.
I think you would get better numbers going with a high quality SS in a 17 pitch.

Re: More Seapro props

Thanks Kenny. What brand should I save up for? Will it have to be a 14" diameter at my motor height?

Thanks for the help!

Re: More Seapro props

took the SST in and got a Rapture 13.25"X17" without the plugs installed.

Here's what I got:

5800 RPM and 44.7 MPH GPS. Still vents a little, but not as bad as the SST.

Thanks for all the help!
