More speed 225

[Johnson 225]

I have a Johnson 225. 1999 model on a 21 F\S rig. I know its a heavy boat. I want to get more speed out of it. It runs 65 mph on the speedo 60 GPS 5600 rpm. I don't really fish so I have taken every thing that I don't need out. I have tryed some other props I have a 23 Viper on it. It feels I could get more out of it. I don't want to hurt any thing but want to go faster. Any help would be Thankful. Robert

You're right at 10% slip so that's not bad. What kind of hull is it? Does it have a pad? Jackplate? Nosecone / low water pick up?

Triton, Pad - I guess- no jackplate / no low water pick up

You'll probably need a prop with more lift and a jackplate to make any significent gains from here.

Like dehadly said, Looks to me you are doing pretty good as you are though. Mine is a Stratos 19 1/2'. Right now I have opted for a 4 blade 25P Renegade. Great all around performance but only running about 68 @ about 5,900-6,000. Looking for a 27P Gade.

Hi Lube Dude

Well just trying to get everything I can get. What other stuff did you do? I am looking at Jack plates and then reproping for the speed and I will keep my other props for sking. I hardly fish and I my self gave up sking along time ago. At the lake I goto it's all about how fast you can get there. It's one of them keeping up with the Jones. Everybody has the big Baja's and others I just want to do it with an outboard. There's 4 boats that can out run me. 3 just by 3-5 mph the last boat is in a class by him self. I road with him at about 105-110 (I would have to buy a differant type of boat to keep up with him). I just want to get everything I can with out blowing it up.
