Thinking of adding a Monster or other wakeboard to my 20' VIP w/v8 over the winter. Few questions:

1. Does a tower reduce sightlines--is it an annoyance or not an issue for driver/passengers?

2. How easy/fast do they put up/down for trailering and such?

3. My son 13 can ski and will be trying wakeboarding next summer at age 14. Would it make sense to see if he likes it from the ski tow eye before investing in a tower?

4. Resale--does it make any differnce?

Re: more wakeboard tower questions

We found the tower does not impair site at all.

Ease of folding will depend on tower. Ours (a Boss Slider) is easiest with two people and takes less than 5 minutes to raise or lower. With a single person it can be a little more difficult

Using the ski eye would save a lot of money.

We havent tried to sell our boat so I am not sure what impact it would have. I know NADA does provide an add on for towers in most cases.

We spent less than a thousand dollars including installation for our Boss slider and could not be more happy. We purchased our racks from Monster tower and would give them an 8 out of 10. The only issue they have is the bolt holding the ring to the tower tends to loosen up in rough water causing the rack to rotate. We finally started using lock tite which holds it for about a month before it happens again. Then we have to clean off the old lock tite and redo it. Not sure if other racks would have the same issue or not. Other than that, the monster racks are very high quality.

Re: more wakeboard tower questions

my tower does not block my vision at all. if anything it helps a little, i have my mirror mounted to a tower leg and i can see much better with it up there.

folding and trailering depend on the tower you chose, some do it much easier than others.

definitely let your son try wakeboarding off the tow eye first. it's a little easier and definitely more fun with a tower but still fun without.

with resale, i think it depends on the boat. if the boat lends itself to water sports easily, the tower will be a bonus when it's time to sell. a tower on say, a pontoon boat, might not do much for resale.

Re: more wakeboard tower questions

In this month's Boating Life Magazine, they list bimini, ESP, and wakeboard towers as the best resale add-ons.

Learn more about different brands and attributes of towers here:

http://www.wakeside.com/page/W/CTGY/wakeboard_towers

I personally like the more custom ones to the monster / titan style. But they are more expensive.
