Morse Control Adjustment

I have a Morse MT2 control (single lever). My Manual only shows a stock Johnson, which has additional features so reading and applying the cable adjustment is different, or so I think.
My problem, what I think is a problem.... is that when I pull the throttle lever out to neutral, and move it up/forward it moves a good inch before it starts to open the butterflies on the carbs. So is that correct, or do I need to take some slack out of the cable? I think I need to correct this before I tackle the adjustment on the safety switch, it isn't clicking (manual said it would click if properly set so engine can start).

Thanks in advance!

Re: Morse Control Adjustment

Does anyone know if the Morse has a switch in it like th Johnson? I am getting ready to tear inside it this evening! Maybe I should take some photos first! :|

Hope you haven't cracked open that control yet.It sounds normal to me.

Even though you bypass the shift function when you pull out on the handle, the control mechanism still has to travel the normal distance before the throttle cable starts to move.

I chickened out... I couldnt find any kind of parts manual on the net, so before I messed it up I left it alone. Still can't find anything about if the cables need adjusting either. I didnt disconnet them when I rebuilt the carbs, just slid them out of the bracket and then back in when I was finished, and I didnt twist the knobs..... just seems like I have to move the lever a ways and thought maybe something slipped, or the cables may have stretched??

I believe that if you contact Teleflex technical support they will help you - Morse is theirs.

Re: Morse Control Adjustment

Your control is operating normally. The control lever needs to move a bit before opening butterflies because of having to get the lower unit in gear. Remember, you have one lever to do two functions. The first bit of travel moves the shift linkage. Once in gear, the throttle comes into play. To check cable adjustment, put the control in neutral. Disconnect both cables at the engine. Make sure the engine linkage is in neutral. Bring the cable ends up to their attachment points. If they don't line up perfectly, adjust the trunions (threaded barrel) until they do. Reattach. If you have to push, pull or force the cables on you did it wrong.
