Motor blew up, converting to 4 stroke question

I am removing an old 150 2 stroke evinrude that threw a rod, and replacing it with a 2003 225 four stroke Merc. My question is, how clean does the fuel tank need to be before adding straight gasoline to it? I mean, do I need to pull the tank out and clean it somehow, or will pumping out the old two stroke mixed gas be sufficient enough to start running regular gas through the lines? I know I will have to replace the fuel/water seperator, but is there anything else?

Boat is a 22' 1990 Hydra Sports DC with 115 gallon tank.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Drain the old gas/oil mix and fill the tank with fresh gas. Run engine whenever you get ready to. Engine exhaust may smoke a little until oil in old gas is used up but this will not hurt anything. In fact, if your tank is half full, or lower, just fill it with fresh gas and run it. This won't hurt anything either.

Just cause the guy selling you the Merc says it'll work, doesn't mean he's not a jerk. I'd call Hydra Sports, and see if they recommend all that extra weight hanging off the transom. You run a very real risk of completely altering the way that boats rides and handles, not to mention how much lower the stern will set. Worth a phone call I think.

OK Thanks. I had a feeling it would be fine to run through but wanted to make sure before I did it. I pumped most of the old 2 stroke fuel (Like 40 Gallons) into my buddy's boat, but still have some left in the bottom. I'll just add some fuel to it and run it.

As far as the weight, the transom is rated for 300 hp. I had plenty of clearance between the water line and the scuppers, and I've been full of fuel with two guys standing at the stern with the old 150 on and never swamped the boat. But I will definitely keep an eye on it to make sure. I know the four strokes are definitely heavier.

Thanks for the advice.
