I'm dealing with a '77 Mercury 1150 / 115HP - Ser. Num 4569747
This past weekend my old Tower of Power developed a situation where it would seem to flood and die when I attempted to throttle up beyond idle. I could get up to about 1200 RPM, and then as I continued to push down it would just bog down and die unless I pulled back to idle. I didn't do it everytime, but I'd guess 75% of the time when I went to give it the gas it would do this. What I did discover though, was if I would give the choke button a tap while I was adding throttle the motor would give a hiccup, and then it would go ahead and let the RPM's to increase like normal to the point I could get to WOT with no issues. Sometimes I'd have to hit the choke a couple times though the RPM increase, but it would work to get me up to plane and eventually WOT.
Does this sound like a sticking carb float? I pulled the plugs and nothing was fouled.... I'm looking for possible areas to look towards to get my old merc back to the point that I can do a normal hole shot with no hesitation or bogging down and dying.
Thanks for the help............
