I am installing a 1992, 28 HP Johnson outboard in my boat and I was told not to use a single (throttle/shift) controller, but rather to use a dual controller because that motor can be erratic. This does not make much sense to me, but I would like to know if any of you have had experience with this. Thanks.

Re: Motor Controls

Retired..... Many years ago, before OMC designed their present type one lever, two cable control units, there existed a makeshift unit (OMC) and a few third party control boxes that really weren't up to par. These units affected the shift only, pertaining to anything being erratic (my experiences).

Pertaining to the later OMC control boxes such as you see today..... use them with confidence.
