If that hood has a lift type locking ring in the front, it would be a 1960 40hp and that hood did not fit the later year 40hp models. List the model number if you want the year pinpointed.

River.... A starter can be installed, but would require a starter, starter bracket, flywheel, solenoid, etc etc. The cost would exceed the value of the engine by far.
Joe, I found a guy about 40 miles from where i live,He has alot of old Johnson n other brands of outboards, some real old one too,<br /> will parts from other years , say 1960 to 64 or <br />65 fit mine, if so i can get them real cheep<br /> River
