The motor cowling seems loose and it rattles constantly in an irritating fashion when I am trolling. No bolts seem to be loose but I'm still getting the looseness and rattling.

Any ideas?

Should be a rubber gasket to insulate/seal the cowling to the pan. Is it present? If not, a few pieces of fuel hose, split down one side, can be slid over the lip of the pan to give a bit of cushion.

I'll take a look and give your suggestion a try. I appreciate the input.

Will post back with results.

If the gasket strips are still there but have come loose and are just "hanging on" (exactly the same as on my '84 9.8, same symptom as you), then save yourself a step in guessing what kind of adhesive to use...

I tried silicone (after very carefully scraping and cleaning everything with solvent), and it lasted exactly 1 week before everything was loose again. It didn't stick to the rubber well.

So I recleaned everything and used PL Premium (construction adhesive). 2 years later the strips are still glued on solid as a rock.
