put the boat in yesterday and was going through a slow no wake, when i reached the end of it i opened it up with no problems and she planed of like normal. ran it at about 4000rpms for about 5 min. with no problems, ran really smooth. then i idled it back and came to a stop. then when i went to take off again i put it in gear ( still was fine) but then when i went to take of it seemed to bog down and die, but it would start up just fine, i had to slowly " feather" the throttle alittle was to keep her from dieing. and she would still run great after that. any ideas what i should look at. its a '89 4.3 omc. have not changed fuel filter yet but it does not seem that the filter would cause this problem

When was the last time you checked and replaced your water sepeerating fuel filter? Was there water in it?
When was your last full tune up?

Re: motor dies when i try and take off

i just bought the boat the end of last season. dont sure when it was tuned up last. as far as the water seperator, the only filter i can see is by the motor " a bombardiea" brand that looks more like a oil filter, i know its for the fuel , is that also a separator or just a filter?

When you remove that filter, don't just replace it and throw the old one away, pour the contents into a clear container so you can see if there was water in the fuel, and how much. That alone will give you some idea of how much if any water you have in the tank.

took off the filter and there is no water in it. took of the spark aresstor and started it up it idled great. so i moved the throttle by and opend it up but it would choke out, but if i returned it back to a lower rpm (around 1100) i could keep it from dieing, anymore thoughts?

i had the same problem, the first thing i did was change my fuel pump diafram, check your fuel lines for cracks make sure your fuel pump is working.this can also be caused by vacum or pressure from the feed tank. all else fails check your high end carb adjustment
