I am hearing that there was a motor flush that was made for the old Johnson outboards. Is this true? If so where can I find one so I don?t need to put the motor in a barrel of water every time I want to flush/run it at my house. I have a 1968 Johnson 20hp Model # FD-22M

Re: Motor Flush for Old Johnson

There were flushing devices made of the older OMC Products. I have not seen them for a long time.

I presume that motor has the water intake behind the prop? Does it also have a water intake grating (for reverse operation) on the side of the LU, just above the antiventilation plate? When I had a motor with those water intake points, I removed the strainer on the upper water intake, put duct tape over the lower water intake and used a standard flush device after removing one "rubber ear" to force water into the upper water intake. It seemed to work OK, but I did not flush it for too long.

The intake is behind/above the prop. I am not sure about the others I will check

Don't know if it the same design but I have a 1975 Evinrude 25HP and I use the rectangle shaped flusher and bungy cord it tight over the bypass intake located above the cavitation plate and it works great for me. It has to be on just right and it will work. May take some adjusting until you get a good seal between the flush muff and intake to get the water to start pumping.
