Motor for 1986 Rinker V205 Cuddy

So I have recently acquired a 1986 Rinker V205 Cuddy in remarkable shape. It was well taken care of. It has a Mercruiser 170 that runs strong but I know its a matter of time before it will have issues. So just for future reference, am I stuck trying to repair it or replace it with another 170 or are there better options that are more or less drop in replacements?

You have posted in the wrong forum, and soon a moderator will move you to the Mercruiser section.
Any engine can develop issues. That why maintaining them is the best way to avoid issues. Drop in replacement when it comes to I/Os is a replacing with the same. Yes often a bigger/different engine can be fitted, but may require many other parts/mods. Also there would be the matter of gear ratios with different engines. Why worry about that until you need to? Just enjoy!
