A 3.5 HP , 2 strokes would be the top for that boat, 2.5 just weights the same, about 13 Kg. 4 strokes same versions weights about 5 Kg more. Inflate to correct working pressure all chambers and secure engine mounting well tight. Don't go for the smallest HP engine, it's performance will bore you soon and it's resale value will drop accordingly. 3.5 has a bit more power than a 2.5. So a 3.5 a better buy.

Happy Boating

Re: motor for Intex Mariner 4

I am also getting a Mariner 400. I already have a Minn Kota 30lb trolling motor (got it as a gift), but I am very tempted to get a gas motor as well. The gas motor is not really needed for the places where I usually fish (and often it's not allowed either), but who cares... I want one anyway :)

So which one did you get? Are you happy with it? Does the boat plane?

Here are my top choices.
Suzuki 2.5HP
Tohatsu/Mariner/Mercury 2.5 or 3.5 HP.

According to the specs, the Tohatsu 2.5 and 3.5HP, have the same weight and same displacement, the only noticeable difference is the price and the HP rating :) Can someone comment on the differences between the two?

After reading this review:
