I hope I'm posting in the right place for this question. I'm looking at powering a good 11'6 Humber Jewel boat. The boat has a wide beam and a lot of surface area in the water. I actually used a 1975 75 hp Evinrude on it for a while, jacked up a bit but I found the displacement to be a little low and it struggled to get out of the whole. I'm looking for a motor that offers good power to weight I was looking at a couple of options. One option is a 1999 Yamaha 60 hp 2 stroke also looked at an older Mercury 4 cyl 80 hp though it might be too heavy. Any suggestions?

Well-----That 3 cylinder 75 is the ideal engine for the Humber Jewel.----It should simply fly with that in good condition !-----What pitch prop did you have on that 75 HP.-------And was it a short or long shaft ?----Small gearcase ?

It was a long shaft, the boat actually takes a long shaft. I initially tried a Mercury 50 hp short shaft and it was too short. The Jewel takes a long shaft motor. I think it was a 17 pitch prop. I tried a 19 pitch but it could not get the boat to plain due to no low end power. The 75 Hustler was used on many boats that I had in those days and it always was a great performer but not on this boat strangely. I think the lack of low end to the 49ci displacement was the issue along with the weight of the motor on the back.

something is seriously wrong with the 75HP if it can,t get a humber jewel on plan in like 4 seconds.i would stick with any of the omc or later merc 3 cylinders.
