Motor Guide Problems

I purchased a 75# wireless Motor Guide in February. Mounted it on my 23' pontoon.

Seemed to work fine at first ( this is my first 24 volt trolling motor). I purchased the handheld unit to go along with the foot unit.

Both the handheld & pedal unit sometimes is slow to respond to changes in speed & direction. There has been times with both units that they have shut the trolling motor off just by pressing the minus button too many times.

Worse situation is where ( a couple of times) I have pressed the directional button several times to the right with no response and then the trolling motor goes into a spin & I cannot shut it off.

Is it me or do I have an issue with the motor. ( Probably me:facepalm:)

Re: Motor Guide Problems

Sounds like you need a trip to a service center. Call first and tell them what's going on.

I Googled Motorguide Problems and found a number of results with problems similar to yours. General consensus is that their is a circuit board that needs to be replaced. Link below is to one of those results from here at iboats.

I agree with Bassman.

On pressing the motor speed arrows, there should be a beep with each press with a speed adjustment. It should not beep once you hit the max or min speed. At min speed the prop is not turning. There is no power on/off out side of plugging it in. Same for direction except there is no max/min, outside of point where the cord wraps around itself enough to damage the wires. ;)
