motor height on transom

i have a 1991 seapro cc with a 140 tohatsu motor, with all the other issues i have found since i bought this boat, how do i know if the motor is mounted at the right height on the transom? any help would be appriciated!

With the motor down, look at where the cavitation plate above the prop lines up with the bottom "V" of the transom. It should be level with the bottom of the "V" or an inch or 2 above. I personally think a little above is better than below, less drag and easier to trim.
