Hi, I just, picked up two small outboards at a yard sale. Got them home and both started right up. One is an OLD Evinrude fisherman. I am unsure of the yr model and hp. The serial # is 55248(or B)-12679 The other is a 9.9 Johnson. I would like to know the yr model of it also. I could also us a prop for the Evinrude. If someone could point me to a web sight that could help me out that would be great. Thanks, Chris.

The guys here are wizards, but see if you can get some numbers off the Johnny block somewhere, if the transom mount plate is missing,. You scored two damn good motors! Anyway, heres a good site for old motors...navigate around...

Re: motor id

9.9s came out in '74. So it's some time newer than that. There were major changes over the first few years so you'll really want to pin it down. If you can't find anything of substance as far as numbers go, try posting some pics.

I think your other one is 5524B, 1962 5.5hp Evinrude fisherman. That's a great engine (with one minor annoyance!). Not really considered old around here though. Broken in maybe. ;)

Re: motor id

hondatech, look in the right hand column, evinrude props. you can get them right here, and support the sponsor of this forum, or you can go to ebay and look for a used one. great engines, i still running a '55 15hp regularly. go to the engine faq forum, and read awakening a sleeping outboard, and joe reeves carb settings, and decarbonization. doing this will extend the lives of the engines.
