motor idles rough

I have a 1998 200 efi just hooked all up today and went to start it will start then idles for about 5 seconds and dies the motor sat for a year without being started pulled the fuel filter off before i started it and it was bone dry so i filled it up with mixed gas and it helped a little but i have to hold the choke in before it will really start. does it just need to be run ?

Does the fuel pump quit running when it dies? It could be the VST tank may have varnish/gum in it stopping up pump. The oil and fuel are mixed in this tank and since it sat the fuel may have evaporated leaving the gummy oil residue and before you ask ,no you need to take it apart and clean it...remember no fuel = no lubrication
