motor jerks on startup

I noticed when i start my motor that it jerks a bit and sometimes shuts off..then i restart it and let it sit for a min or two in idle then it runs fine doesn't jerk anymore..is this normal till it warms up a bit...it might do this a couple of times but then stays good...

semi normal.

Make sure you are pumping the fuel primer bulb till firm, before starting, it may help.

ok I will check that the bulb is hard before starting and see how that works because other than that it works fine.

Besides the buld what else could it be?

What might I be able to do to maybe help to this...maybe clean something?

This is only on cold starts then it seems ok if I go put shut off then after a while when stating it might do it one or two times.....

I have a 1985 85 hp that idles rough if you bring the throttle to idle right after start up so I leave it revved up a little for about 15-30 seconds then its fine

If the engine idle, rpm is set correctly, try backing the idle screw on each carburetor out 1/8 of a turn and see if that improves the kicking during warm up, doing this allows the engine to run a little richer.
Notice the setting of the idle screws on the carburetors before adjusting them in case you need to set them back where they were originally.
