I have a Evinrude Tracker Pro Series 115 hp TE115TLEIE Serial # 602618185 I was having some problems with the plug wires staying on. If I took the cowling off and then put it back on it would hit the plug wire and pull it out of the cap. I have zip tied them on and that seems to have fixed the problem of them coming off. The problem I am now having, and I am not sure if it related to the wire problem, is when I first start the boat it runs great. Lots of power. About 10 minutes of fling across the lake the motor just dies. Sometimes I can restart it and other times I can't. I brought it home and hooked it up to a hose. I ran it in neutral and in gear for 20 minutes and it worker great. Any thoughts?

1991 manuals http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1991&ID=189842

does it shut down, like you turn the key to off, or slow down like running out of gas. time to trouble shoot, check spark when it shuts down. is the fuel line primer bulb collapsing (going flat)?

will it restart after waiting a period time for it to cool down. just first thought, is power pack heating up and failing.

I was thinking power pack. It starts right up when you put it in the water, goes for a bit then just dies like turn off the key dies. If I give it some time it sometimes will start but not run well enough to get it back to the landing. I run it on the muffs and it would run for hours.

Ignition coils are more prone to failure when heated than powerpacks.

With no load, your engine can run on two or three cylinders and sound all right.

Borrow or rent an inductive timing light and clamp it alternatively on each plug wire of the running engine; you should quickly isolate the problem ignition coil(s).

agree, he has the motor with the single power pack. it would be strange to drop 2 coils at the same time. then it should restart on 2 cylinders. it uses individual coils.

Some of those covers had large, metal locking latches; make sure that the spark plug wires are as far away from them as possible if you have those.

OK So I have already done the tie wrap on the plug wires. I am a little confused. Do you guys think it?s the power pack or the coil? There are 2 coils right? Can I just pull the plug and turn the engine over to see if I have spark or do I have to let it heat up to recreate the problem?
