I have a 1998 30hp 2 stroke johnson motor and when in idle it tends to knock a little bit, both in makins a steady noise and in moving a little bit. Should I be concerned or is it normal? If it is abnormal what can I do to fix it? Is it the timing?

Thanks, Nick

Re: Motor knocking

You might get a better response if you provide a bit more info. Like:

1. How is it running & what rpms at WOT?
2. What plugs do you have & how do they look?
3. Any maintenance been done recently & if so what?
4. Has the timing ever been checked or a aync & link done - if so how long ago?
5. Compression?

Re: Motor knocking

I just installed a new water pump. It runs fine exept it moves a little and makes a high pitched ticking sound, not really that loud. I do not think the timing has ever been checked
