i live in indiana, and have been to several of the "dealerships" and repair shops aroundtown and they tell me that there is only one kind of repair manual out there. so my question is how many different makers of manuals are there and are there more for one kind of motor than another? they all tell me that the only one out for retail sale is CLYMER is that true?

OEM Manual. Best thing you can buy for your motor.
Seloc manual. Nowhere near as good as an OEM manual but can be helpful.
Clymer manual. Bad quality toilet tissue. You can pay a lot less for something softer and stronger.

Just my opinion though.

thanks. got a clymer for a merc DO NOT LIKE it as you have already said toilet tissue!!! I am an auto mechanic but am quick to figure out whats what when it comes to a motor, i am working on these two for my bro and his buddy that have recent bought a pontoon boat- the merc had a bad cylinder and now the evinrude has joined the mix. that clymer was not as informative as i was expecting. where do you suggest to go for either the oem or a more informative manual?

You can google ken cooke for an OEM or try e-bay. Seloc is available here I believe.

find the proper manual at outboardbooks.com. then check ebay, searayman13 usually has good prices, if it is not listed on ebay, send them an inquiry if they have it.
