motor mount broke

1987 alpha one 305 mercruser

The wooden motor mount broke that it bolts to and i replaced it and now its out of alignment.Someone tried to make it do and twisted on the bolt.The stern drive will not go back in.any help?

most likely it would be. it needs to be aligned first before you install the drive.

ok so i have the tool and ive aligned it several times and it slides in very easy but it is stuck where it has about a inch to go.Why?

Ayuh,.... The Drive, or the Alignment bar,..??

If the drive, is Everything in Forward gear,..??

yes the drive,it will not go all the way in.I was told it could be the o rings making it stick.

look from underneath the drive at the mating of the lower and intermediate shift shafts, they should slide one into the other and both facing forward. the propeller should be turned counter clockwise and held firmly in counterclockwise direction with a bungee cord to keep the shoe of the lower shift shaft facing forward. as the driveshaft enters the coupler sometimes you have to turn the prop a tad to get the splines to line up. not too much or you can bump the drive out of forward. (remote control in forward AND prop counterclock for drive to be in forward)

o rings could be hanging up, drop of oil only on them, no grease. if you greased them, pull drive out and clean them. your almost home!

lots of grease is their haha ill tell you what if that dont work in about to get a hammer and a 2x4 haha.
