motor only runs half throttle

I have a 1990 evinrude 60 horse motor on my pontoon boat. When I start it up and tried to test it at the lake it would only go half throttle. Any suggestions?

David it could be many things... Is the prop correct for your boat? Pull the spark plugs and check for compression. Has the boat been sitting for the winter? If it has you may need to clean or rebuild the carbs. Or you may need to just get some fresh gas for the motor. Good luck! Someone here can probably be more specific for what you can do. When you say Half throttle, what do you mean? How many RPM's are you turning? Have you checked the carb, might be a clogged high speed jet, Fuel pump good? Tank vented? sucking air somewhere? Fuel line condition? How is Spark? Timing? Compression? These are a few things that it could be.

Do you mean the throttle will only move half the normal distance or that at full throttle it only runs half as fast as it use too.waynebo

Hi David<br /> Check all the things mentioned above. your motor has a feature built into the power-pac called S.L.O.W.(speed limiting overheat warning). It is supposed to limit RPM in the event of cooling system failure. You may need to service the cooling system. Maybe the power-pac is stuck in this mode. What ever the case I suggest you obtain a manual to help run down the problem.
