motor overheat sensor

I have a 1963 40 horse Johnson Super Seahouse outboard motor----on the dash board of the boat is a hot engine indicator light which appears to be wired up to the electrical truck line going to the engine. Where on the engine would I find the sensor and how could I check it for correct operation?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Meaux

Tan lead that goes into cylinder head disconect lead from sender and ground it the hot lite should come on the sensor has to be removed from head to check
