My pontoon is set up for up to I believe 135hp max, I have a 1991 Monarch 24ft. Since motor weights can vary in weight from years to year and also in brands. I know a newer Mercury 125 is almost the same weight as the 150hp, but I wasn't sure if they are the same weight as say an early 80's model (same HP). The older ones feel like they were made out of all steel compared to the newer ones. Maybe its just me though, can really find much information online. I know you can't go over the HP rated for your boat....more because of the force that motor could provide. Just a thought I was having.

The hang weight of the engine has little or nothing to do with the transom rating.

It is the torque the engine puts on the transom that is rated whether the engine weight 300lbs or 600 lbs, 135 horse is 135 horse, of coarse the boat will sit lower in the water with the heavier engine but the transom will hold the extra weight easily.

As long as you stay within the HP rating you are fine.
